Research Interests

Dr. Sheibani's research covers both fundamental and applied research work on fluid mechanics, heat transfer, forced mixing and transport phenomena problems in crystal growth and energy-related industries, and the development of new research directions. Over the past ten years, Dr. Sheibani has investigated various thermo-fluids and forced mixing in after-burners research topics, and expanded the scope of my research in the past three years to address semiconductors, transport phenomena and crystal growth under microgravity. These research topics will be continued in the near to mid term, and increasing emphasis will be gradually placed on the energy technologies over the long term. Dr. Sheibani believes in a balance between numerical and experimental work.

Presently research is focused on two important crystal growth processes, namely Liquid Phase Electroepitaxy (LPEE), Travelling Heater Method (THM), The interested materials are GaInAs, GaInSb, SiGe and CdZnTe. These materials are needed for various applications such as opto-electronic devices, x- and gamma ray detectors, optical switching, medical imaging devices, energy conversion, solar cells and photovoltaic devices, etc.

This Experimental research focuses on the LPEE growth of GaInAs, GaInSb, and CdZnTe ternary single crystals under normal and gravity conditions. The objective is to determine optimum growth conditions for the reproducible growth of large diameter (25 mm and 50 mm) high quality bulk semiconducting crystals, leading to commercial production. The theoretical research includes the model development and numerical simulations for the transport phenomena involved in the growth processes of mentioned above.
