The department offers two distinct B.Sc. programs in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering in an exciting, fast-growing, friendly, teamwork-based and student-centered environment. We are committed to excellence in teaching, research and scholarly activities, continual enhancement/redesigning of learning and learning environment, cementing connection with our alumni, deepening cooperation with industry, participating in the national and regional construction with technically qualified and responsible graduates.
The department prides itself for being the first in the region to offer a nuclear engineering “concentration” in its BSME program and the first in the country to offer a BSIE program.
The Mechanical and Industrial Engineering graduates make a career out of figuring out how to do things better: smarter, safer, greener, healthier, more economical, more efficient, sustainable and humane. We teach skills and cultivate attitudes that ensure our students a successful career in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering. Our undergraduate students can count on the applied education that employers are looking for, and our Internship Program helps them achieve invaluable practical experience while still in school.

Industrial engineers find best-fit solutions between people, machines, materials, energy and information. The traditional term “industrial” is somewhat misleading as manufacturing is only one area in which Industrial Engineers make a difference; they are equally active in fields ranging from health care management to the finance industry, service productivity, and management at all levels of business.
Industrial engineering involves a combination of engineering, design, and project management skills, and may draw upon such specialized knowledge as human factors, mathematics, physical sciences, computer systems, and disciplines in the social sciences, coupled with the principles and methods of engineering analysis.
Industrial engineering is a versatile discipline, which leads to careers in a wide range of specializations in industry, academe, and even in non-technical areas. Employment opportunities are among the most varied in the engineering field. Representative jobs titles include industrial engineer, process engineer, manufacturing engineer, safety engineer, systems analyst, quality specialist, operations research analyst, internal consultant, human factors specialist, supervisor, and project managers. Mechanical engineering is broadly concerned with energy, manufacturing, and design of machines. Mechanical engineers conceive, plan, design, implement, optimize, and direct the manufacture, distribution, and operation of a wide variety of devices, machines, and systems -including complex human-machine systems- for energy conversion, bio-fuel production, environmental control, materials processing and handling, transportation, (bio)medical applications, and other purposes.
Engineers must have a solid understanding of mathematics and physics, and become conversant in fields such as design, mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and energy theory. Major subspecialties of mechanical engineering include thermal-fluids engineering and mechanical systems engineering.
Mechanical engineers find a wide variety of career opportunities in industry, government, and education. Mechanical engineers form an integral part of most industries, including aerospace firms, energy companies, automobile manufacturers, health care providers, food- and metal-processing industries, petroleum refineries, electronic and computer manufacturers, heavy construction and agricultural vehicle manufacturers, wind turbine manufacturers, thermal comfort equipment firms, farm equipment firms, consulting and construction companies, to name just a few!
Our Mechanical Engineering program offers three areas of concentration:

Thermo-fluids and Energy. Emphasizes air quality control, energy production and conversion, and sustainability. The nuclear engineering basket focuses on the design, operation, control and safety of nuclear reactors, and nuclear waste management.

Instrumentation and Control. This area of concentration emphasizes modeling, sensing and control of dynamic processes in engineering systems, and reliability.

Materials and Manufacturing. This area of concentration emphasizes topics in mechanics of materials, advanced manufacturing and quality control.
