The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FAS) plays a dual role. First, it provides a variety of general courses required for the graduation of students from different specializations. This General Education experience contributes to the students’ achievement of intended learning outcomes and lays a solid foundation for future success in the field of specialization. Skills are developed through a series of courses focused on specific areas: Written & Oral Communication; Technology Literacy; Research; Religion, Culture & Ethics; and Critical & Logical Reasoning.
Second, FAS offers a Bachelor Degree in Education in the field of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies. This program is designed for pre-service and in-service teachers who desire to receive a holistic professional training in the field of Education.
 
  • Write clear, concise, well thought out academic essays in Arabic and English.
  • Engage in discussions with professors and peers on academic topics.
  • Give short, effective presentations in English and Arabic on general topics and topics related to their specialization.
 
  • Distinguish between major research paradigms
  • Develop basic understanding of methods of data collection and analysis
  • Conduct a basic literature review and accurately document sources
  • Apply skills learned to undertake small-scale research projects
  • Write clear and concise research reports
 
  • Develop a well-rounded worldview in the context of religious, cultural and ethical values
  • Understand their responsibilities as informed citizens in a scientifically and culturally complex world
 
  • Develop fundamental critical and creative thinking
  • Effectively apply principles of scientific and logical reasoning in research contexts
  • Objectively critique one’s own work and the work of his/her peers
