The faculty of Arts and social sciences (FAS) of AL-hosn University plays a dual role. First, it provides a variety of general courses required for the graduation of students from different specializations. A broad-based General Education experience contributes to the student’s achievement of intended learning outcomes and lays a solid foundation for future success in the field of specialization. This interdisciplinary trait of FAS courses provides learners with the foundation skills necessary for success in a variety of disciplines. Skills are developed through a series of courses focused on specific areas: Written & Oral Communication; Technology Literacy; Research; Religion, Culture & Ethics; Critical & Logical Reasoning.
Second, FAS offers a Bachelor Degree in Education in the field of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies, and an Elementary Education Degree in English. Both programs are designed for pre-service and in-service teachers who desire to receive a holistic professional training in the field of Education.
 
  • Write clear, concise, well thought out academic essays in Arabic and English .
  • Engage in discussions with professors and peers on academic topics .
  • Give short, effective presentations in English and Arabic on general topics and topics related to their specialization .
 
  • Develop a well-rounded worldview in the context of religious, cultural and ethical values
  • Understand their responsibilities as informed citizens in a scientifically and culturally complex world
 
  • Develop fundamental critical and creative thinking
  • Effectively apply principles of scientific and logical reasoning in research contexts
  • Objectively critique their one’s work and the work of his/her peers
 
Distinguish between major research paradigms
Develop basic understanding of methods of data collection and analysis
Identify research-able problems and questions in a variety of fields
Conduct a basic literature review and accurately document sources
Apply skills learned to undertake small-scale research projects
Write clear and concise research reports
Effectively present and defend research orally in front of professors and peers
Objectively critique their own work and the work of their peers
